Unveiling Captain Obvious: A Playful Take on Florida Vacations
When Boulder's Wild Manor teamed up with the renowned ad wizards at Crispin Porter Bogusky, they summoned me to wrangle the chaos and make magic happen for Hotels.com. Our mission? To bring to life a cheeky :30 spot and a series of bite-sized :15 ads starring none other than the legendary Captain Obvious himself. Because, well, duh!
The Concept:
Enter "A Guide to Getting Hate-Likes in Florida." Picture this: You book your dream Florida vacation through Hotels.com, soak in the sun, snap envy-inducing selfies, and post them all over social media. But here's the twist—thanks to Captain Obvious, you hilariously manage to turn your dream getaway into a "hate-like" magnet. Because who doesn't love a good dose of irony with their sunshine?
Behind the Scenes:
As the line producer, I orchestrated the behind-the-scenes ballet to ensure everything ran smoother than a Florida sunset. From scouting the perfect beachfront location to coordinating hair and makeup for Captain Obvious (who nailed the deadpan delivery, by the way), every detail was meticulously planned.
Production Highlights:
Captain Obvious in Action: Watching Captain Obvious bring his signature blend of wit and irony to life was a highlight. His deadpan advice on how to attract "hate-likes" and *spoiler alert* the incredible water gag at the end was pure gold. We got it in a single take, too!
Creative Collaboration: Working with Wild Manor and CPB was like watching a comedic symphony unfold. Ideas bounced around like beach balls, and the whole team had a great time pulling this one off!
The Impact:
The spots hit the airwaves and social feeds like a hurricane (the good kind). They not only showcased Hotels.com's savvy booking services but also left viewers chuckling and reaching for their phones to book their own Florida escapades—hopefully with fewer hate-likes in tow.
In the end, bringing Captain Obvious to life for Hotels.com was a riot. It's not every day you get to turn vacation envy on its head and have a blast doing it. Duh, indeed!
